James Davey is Senior Vice President of Marketing, Planning, and Retail
Development for Nickelodeon and Viacom Consumer Products (NVCP).
In this role, Davey develops marketing and retail strategies for more than
20 entertainment properties within the NVCP Portfolio including: SpongeBob
SquarePants; Dora the Explorer; and South Park. He works with departments
including marketing and advertising sales to define long-term strategies and
identify the viability of individual entertainment properties. Managing a
team of 35, he develops launch strategies for individual properties
including: research; creative; advertising; and promotion, then works with
the retail community to communicate upcoming priorities, develop
collaborative marketing programs, and define long-term growth plans.
A seven-year veteran, Davey joined Nickelodeon as Vice President, Toys and
Packaged Goods for NVCP where he was responsible for selecting all licensee
partners, negotiating contracts, and developing retail strategies in a
three-year period while nearly tripling the size of the NVCP licensee base.
He led his team in negotiating several of the largest and most complex
integrated licensing, promotion and advertising deals with a range of toy
partners.
Prior to joining Nickelodeon, Davey was Director of Global Marketing for the
Polaroid Corporation where he was responsible for the Polaroid i-Zone youth
business segment for two years and grew the division from $5million to
$250million worldwide. He directed the worldwide launch of Polaroid i-Zone
cameras and sticky film and oversaw product development for the i-Zone
franchise which included leading cross-functional teams, defining research
needs, working closely with industrial design and packaging agencies, and
performing financial modeling.
Davey began his career at Global Partners Management Consulting, where he
worked with Fortune 100 companies both globally and domestically, to develop
competitive marketing, training and sales programs. He has held various
posts with Lego Systems, Inc. and Krupp Real Estate Investment Co.
Davey has been a guest lecturer in the area of youth marketing for a number
of business school programs and has spoken at over 20 conferences in the
past few years. He holds a B.A. in Economics and International Studies, and
a MBA from Babson Graduate School.
